Therapy for Older Adults

Warm, unhurried telehealth therapy for seniors across New York State. Much of my career has been spent face to face with older adults around New York City — in their homes, in facilities, and in offices. It's the work I care about most, and it's now available from your own chair.

What we work on

The parts of getting older that nobody prepares you for

Retirement

Losing the structure and identity that came with work, and figuring out what fills the days now.

Loneliness

Fewer friends still around, family spread out, and a quiet house that wasn't always quiet.

Loss of independence

Giving up driving, needing help at home, and the frustration and grief that come with it.

Grief

A spouse, a sibling, a lifelong friend — often several losses close together.

Aging

Changes in memory, energy, and appearance, and the worry about being a burden.

Anxiety

Worry about health, falls, finances, or what happens to the people you love.

Depression

Low mood that families often dismiss as "just getting old" — it isn't, and it's treatable.

Life transitions

Moving in with adult children, downsizing, relocating, or entering assisted living.

Chronic illness

The emotional weight of pain, treatment, appointments, and limits on daily life.

Family changes

Shifting roles with adult children, in-laws, and grandchildren.

Caregiver relationships

Depending on a spouse or child for care, and keeping the relationship intact through it.

What sessions are like

We meet by secure video at a time that suits you — no driving, no parking, no waiting room. If technology isn't your favorite thing, I'll walk you through it patiently, and a family member is welcome to help you get set up the first time.

I speak plainly, I don't rush, and I never treat age as a diagnosis. We talk about what's actually in front of you: loss, worry, loneliness, health, family, and what would make the coming years feel more like your own.

I use CBT skills alongside other strength-based approaches, which in practice means we build on what you already do well rather than starting from scratch. You've handled a great deal already.

Looking into therapy for a parent?

Adult children reach out on behalf of a parent all the time. You're welcome to call with questions first — I'll tell you honestly whether I think I can help, and how to raise it with them.
